TRANSCEND: ORSP National Student Congress 2018

600 DELEGATES ATTEND THE ORSP NATIONAL STUDENT CONGRESS 2018

The Operations Research Society of the Philippines (ORSP) Student Federation (SF), together with the ORSP – University of Santo Tomas (UST) Chapter, had the annual ORSP National Student Congress entitled “Transcend: Operations Research at your Fingertips” last March 4, 2018 from 8 AM to 5 PM at the UST Medicine Auditorium.


Giving his warmest opening remarks was ORSP Vice President, Mr. Nelon Ileno.

There were a total of three talks – two for the morning part, and one for the afternoon. The speakers were Mr. Charlie Fong, who had a talk entitled “OR in the Philippine E-Commerce and Marketplace”, Mr. Martin Cu, who had a talk entitled “The Use of Technology to Augment Operational Capabilities and Disrupt Logistics Space in the Philippines”, and lastly Mr. Kashish Manocha, who had a talk entitled “Setting up KPIs for Any Business.”




 

UPD REIGNS AS THIS YEAR’S CASE STUDY AND QUIZ BEE COMPETITION CHAMPIONS

As the Congress progressed at the UST Medicine Auditorium, things heat up as the Case Study ang Quiz Bee Competition happened simultaneously at the rooms of Buenaventura Garcia Paredes O.P. (BGPOP) Building last March 4, 2018 from 8 AM to 6 PM.


Different schools have participated in this event by sending their best teams to battle for the crown and be hailed as this year’s Case Study and Quiz Bee Competition Champions. The participating schools were as follows: Adamson University (AdU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Batangas State University - Alangilan (BSU), Bulacan State University (BULSU), De La Salle University (DLSU), Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna (LPU), Mapua University, Quezon City Polytechnic University (QCPU), University of Batangas (UB), University of the Philippines – Diliman (UPD), University of the Philippines – Los Baños (UPLB), Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) and the University of Santo Tomas (UST).



Lunch was also served at the Ballroom Hall of the BGPOP Building. The crowd was serenaded by the band Catherine and band from Adamson University as the delegates, both from the congress and the competition, ate their buffet lunch.



The winning teams were UPD, DLSU and ADMU for the Quiz Bee Competition, and UPD Team A, Mapua University, and UPD Team B for the Case Study Competition, in which they won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place, respectively.
